Drought Resilience From A Local Government Perspective

Barbara J Long Function Room 4 Gleeson Street, Clare, SA, Australia

This workshop will act as an opportunity to explore drought resilience from a local government perspective with the aim of outlining a plan for councils to access future funding and creating resilience across Council assets and services to assist both the community and Council.

As part of the ongoing regional drought adaptation planning, the consortium (RDA Yorke and Mid-North, Landscapes Board, Legatus Group, PIRSA, RDA Barossa Gawler Light Adelaide Plains and RDA Far North), have engaged consultants, Edge Environment, Healthy Environs and Yaran Business Services to develop a Regional Drought Resilience Plan. The plan will act as a strategic document to guide future drought resilience implementation and as a method of accessing funding for projects identified as key to creating community, business, and environmental resilience by the Australian Government Future Drought Fund.

The workshop will allow the consultants to meet with all Legatus Group councils to discuss drought resilience from an economic, social, environmental, and cultural perspective, with a focus on planning, adaptation and response initiatives that have occurred in the past and methods of improving drought resilience in the future.

Given the significant role councils have in the urban environments which include Planning – Street Design – Parks and Gardens - Smart Irrigation – Stormwater - CWMS water reuse – Green waste this workshop will provide further input into developing the region to be drought resilient.
